What is Dot Day?

Dot Day is an international celebration of art, creativity, and courage. Inspired by author Peter H. Reynolds' book The Dot, a teacher introduced The Dot to his classroom in 2009 and started the now international celebration of Dot Day. Children and adults alike are encouraged to "make their mark" and explore the power and potential of creativity. Millions of people around the world celebrate Dot Day every September, and you can too!

Peter H. Reynolds is an accomplished author and illustrator of many well known children's books, including The Dot. The International Dot Day website summarizes the book as a "story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to 'make her mark'. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing, which has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the globe."

This inspirational book is now available in twenty different languages and has won numerous awards. The Dot is part of a three book 'Creatrilogy' which includes Ish, Sky Color, and The Dot. All three books aim to protect and nourish the creative spirit for all ages.

Peter Reynolds has worked on many books with author Susan Verde, now illustrating and hand lettering his own books. Reynolds and his twin brother launched the non-profit organization Reynolds Center for Teaching, Learning, and Creativity which encourages creativity and innovation in teaching and learning.

Dot Day 15143 is sponsored by Heritage Wealth Advisors and Mark Rengers Gallery.
